Ballad of Poncho Boy

by Bleacher Bum Band

/

about

Revenge is served best cold and wet in the Cubs bleachers on 5/21/22 in this cautionary tale.

lyrics

A bobblehead Saturday in the rainy month of may
A smattering of bleacher fans were waiting at the gate
The fans began to stream To go see their favorite team,
They made 3 separate lines to pass through security

There was one man who had a plan and knew just where to go
Run to section 504 and down to the first row
He had come prepared for rain with a plastic poncho
He’d get revenge with his girlfriend without getting soaked

He’d sit there in the rain for 7 hours straight
He’d sit right though the weather that had made the game delayed
With his plastic poncho on, he’d sit all afternoon long
That’s why I’m writing Poncho Boy this song

Stuck at bag check was Bleacher Jeff, He’d picked the slowest line
While Poncho’s line moved faster abetting in the crime
For unbeknownst to Jeffrey a few weeks in the past
He’d saved seats in his section making Poncho pretty mad

He’d come back from Iowa to teach Jeff a lesson
He’d claim Jeff’s customary seat in Jeff’s usual section
For the tickets they both held said General Admission
Revenge will be served cold and wet, no respect for tradition

And he’d sit there in the rain for 7 hours straight
He’d sit right though the weather that had made the game delayed
With his plastic poncho on, he’d sit all afternoon long
That’s why I’m writing Poncho Boy this song

When Jeff got to his section he said “what have we here?”
A rookie season ticket holder who maybe comes to 20 games a year
I’ll buy you guys a couple beers if you give up that seat
If not I’m gonna shame you in a notorious tweet
But Poncho Boy he wouldn’t budge, he wouldn’t move a muscle
The seat the once held Bleacher Jeff now held a soaking couple
The driving rain poured off his poncho pooling into puddles
While Bleacher Jeff stayed warm and dry down in the Bleacher tunnel

And he sat there in the rain for 7 hours straight
He sat right though the weather that had made the game delayed
With his plastic poncho on, he sat all afternoon long
That’s why just wrote Poncho Boy this song
